Biography
A-UP is new to the DJ-ing scene. He has recently taken the step up to the competition area of DJ-ing in order to gain an improved reputation. He began DJ-ing in 1999 when he bought his first pair of Soundlab belt drive turn tables. He soon discovered a love for the “Turntablism” side of Djing and decided to purchase some direct drive tables.
Once he had mastered his mixing and scratching technique, A-UP decided to start making underground hip hop mix tapes to promote himself. His mix tapes were passed on to a number of different established DJs including Excallibah, Skitz, Andy Peek, DJ Babu and DJ Premier.
A-UP’s first live experience began in August 2003 when he and a number of B-Boys and MC’s set up a hip hop night in Manchester called “The Hidden”. This event is arranged once every few months when the whole team was around. He then went on to DJ at Luton University Students Union and Elemental in Manchester.
A-UP has now adapted his style in order to please a number of different kinds of audiences. His style can vary from playing a dark underground hip hop routine, to an upbeat and vibrant “urban” sound full of hip hop and r’n’b classic anthems.
