Biography
Young DJ Pete Hoyle, from Shaw, has been on the scene for four months and has been mixing for less than a year. Hes a 19 year old prodigy, currently studying audio engineering at The School of Sound Recording in Manchester. After years of listening to Dave Pearce's 15 minute mix on Radio1 every night, and the Trickbabies mash ups on Galaxy 102 he became obsessed with how tunes were cut up and mixed together, finally realising he had a massive passion for something new.
On a boy’s holiday to Ibiza in 2003, Pete saw his idol Tiesto live at Cream, Amnesia and Dave Pearce at Eden, and just knew that’s what he wanted to do. After getting his first decks in January, Pete taught himself everything he knew, as well as being influenced by DJs he saw playing when he went out. Wherever he went, he chatted to the dj's and watched everything they were doing. Pete became a big fan of the Trickbabies. One Friday in Liquid, Oldham, he got an autograph from Shaun (of the Trickbabies) whose style and talent he admired and was impressed by. When he got his decks he just went out and bought all his favourite records from all the trance classics of the 90's to the summer dance tunes of Ibiza!
Pete struggled on these belt drive decks but believed he had what it takes, so he went and bought some fairly cheap direct driven decks. Talks about Technics seemed too expensive to him at this stage. Hours and hours in his bedroom led to getting a guest mix in a local bar for an hour set. This went well, and was asked to play there every other Saturday for an hour. He loved playing his records for people and making them dance, money was not a priority at this time.. While playing at the bar in Oldham, he was going out all the time watching and chatting to dj's, and became friends with a guy called Martin Doorly, who had a big impact on him. This was the first time he had seen scratching for real and thoght it was wicked. On a Friday night he started going to a night called 'NAKED', this was Mike Anthonys night from Galaxy 102. Here he watched loads of dj's and liked there styles, especially Jon Fitz and Phill Scott. One of Petes best moments so far came in April when he played alongside Shaun Trickbaby in Harry’s bar. Shaun told him he should keep going and one day he would make it.
Later in the year, around May, he noticed a bar was really quiet on a Thursday night, so Pete and a mate asked the manager if they could have a go at promoting a night. He agreed and started a night called 'FRESCH'. It kicked off really well and it really got going for about ten weeks, but disagreements with the manager meant he decided to leave. Soon he became resident of another bar called ‘Baileys’. Whilst working there he did a live set for Revolution radio, live on stage for a street party in Oldham. This was scary for him but he danced, played and enjoyed it playing for a few hundred people.
In July he went to Falaraki with some friends, whilst over there he got to play in two bars just from chatting to dj's and having a laugh. Petes best experience was when he got to play two tunes at a beach party. The sun was coming over the mountains as he played at 7am. There he played with a guy called dj Rossi who Pete thought was a great dj with lots of imagination. When Pete got home from Falaraki he started doing an open decks night in Oldham called 'SHAKEDOWN'. He really enjoyed playing here as it was run by a dj called OZ, (rude). Who is an experienced dj and has played all over the U.K.
Pete is young, with bags of ambition and loves nothing more in life than music. His favourite place is behind a pair of decks and his favourite thing is his record collection. He knows he is new to the game but he isn't scared of playing anywhere because he loves it and believes he can do it. The next thing he wants is some Technics so he can practice at home. He hates playing on the decks he has at the moment but they have helped him along his journey. Lately he has become a good back up dj for bars in Oldham and Ashton, playing Budda Bar and Boogie Wonderland, both good experiences but he says he wants more!!!
